WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Youth of NC’s third annual Youth Resilience Summit is set for Thursday, Aug. 22, at Port City Community Church at 250 Vision Drive, Wilmington.
The summit aims to educate people that work with youth on Adverse Childhood Experiences and resources available to them.
NBA All-Star Legend Kenny Anderson will be the guest speaker, explaining how major traumatic experiences affected him and the people who helped him.
“Today, Anderson is Head Coach for Fisk University, the oldest historically black institution of higher education in Nashville, TN. Kenny enjoys being a supportive and sympathetic advocate for the students at Fisk University. He makes it his mission to travel the country and tell his story,” a Youth of NC announcement states.
Keynote speaker District Attorney Ben David along with Chief District Court Judge Corpening will discuss best practices for making the best out of terrible circumstances.
Other topics include the Sandy Hook Promise, the impact of internet and social media trends, how connections matter, how to energize you, navigating the state’s mental health system, teaching kids through creative expression and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Tickets can be bought online for $35 each until the event.
