WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – Wrightsville Beach Interim Police Chief Jason Bishop on Wednesday held a community meeting to hear thoughts, concerns and other feedback from neighbors.
Bishop says he grew up in the town and has spent 27 years with the department.
“I’m very lucky to have worked my entire career here. That’s unusual this day and time. The town’s been good to me, the police department’s been good to me and I appreciate the confidence that the town and y’all have in me,” Bishop said.
People voiced concerns about speeders and e-bikes along with issues with people texting and driving.
“The more that the department in general can interact with the residents and visitors, the better off we all are. I want the officers to get our there, I want the residents to feel comfortable coming up to the officers and having a discussion. My door is always open,” he said.
Several officers were commended for their work going to the ocean to help a man who went missing while suffering mental health issues.
