WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – As crews begin work to update New Hanover High School, the community can track the progress through a new webpage, according to New Hanover County Schools.
“As construction begins at New Hanover High School, New Hanover County Schools has launched a webpage for families and community members that details the work being done and how to access different services at the school,” NHCSO states. “Phase I of the project is underway and will include stabilizing the foundation of the southern wall facing Market Street and determining the scope of work required to repair the masonry.
“The building is structurally safe and instruction will continue when school starts Aug. 27.”
The webpage will detail how students and visitors can access parking and the school itself, as well as provide updates on the work that is currently being done.
“Because construction affects the main entrance of the school, offices will be relocated to the Princess Street side of the main building,” NHCS explains.
An open house is scheduled for Aug. 21 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., during which students will be allowed to ask questions and tour the school.
New Hanover High School opened in 1922 and is one the oldest high school buildings still in use in the state.
