WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Applications for ‘Work on Wilmington 2025,’ a day of volunteer service, are now open.

According to the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, “Work on Wilmington is New Hanover County’s largest single day of volunteer service.”

“We are seeking project proposals from non-profits, local governmental organizations, and schools in the Wilmington area. Projects that require large numbers of volunteers are preferred and must be able to be completed in four hours. Projects that have tangible benefits for the community and would be impossible without the help of Work on Wilmington volunteers are highly encouraged,” the press release states.

This year’s event will take place on April 26, 2025. It will take place over four hours and bring “together hundreds of volunteers to complete service projects across [the] community.”

The chamber of commerce states that the volunteer event raised over $100,000 last year for organizations like Boys and Girls Clubs, Coastal Horizons, and Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.

Applications are currently open and will be accepted until Oct. 4, 2024.

Then Wilmington Chamber of Commerce notes, “For safety reasons, projects that require potentially dangerous work, such as roofing, use of scaffolding, heavy use of sophisticated power tools, and excavation equipment, are not suitable for Work on Wilmington. However, [it is] open to tackling larger projects that require ingenuity and a creative theme.”
