COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – A woman has been arrested and charged in connection to the shooting of her boyfriend in Columbus County on Saturday, July 14.
Per the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a gunshot wound report at 500 Jefferson Street, Whiteville, at about 10 p.m.
The CCSO says the victim was found drunk with gunshot wounds and gave a brief statement:
He said that he was arguing with his girlfriend Julie Crampton over the phone and eventually in-person, and that Crampton struck him in the face and head multiple times. The victim said Crampton got a revolver from under a pillow and shot at him while he attempted to run away. He says he hid under a truck and saw Crampton leave with her gun towards a creek, and he head to his neighbor’s house to ask for help.
Crampton was arrested the same day at her home on Mt. Moriah Church Road and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury. She is being held without bond.
