WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A Brunswick County man is accused of carrying out an armed robbery that happened at an ATM on South College Road.

The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) said that officers arrested Allen Jerome Smith Jr., 42, after an investigation connected him to an armed robbery that happened at the Bank of America ATM located at 502 S. College Road on Monday, Dec. 1.

“Smith was taken into custody, without incident,” WPD said. “The investigation is still ongoing at this time; additional charges may be added.”

Officers arrested Smith in the parking lot near PNC Bank at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5.

WPD worked with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the ATF and the FBI during the investigation.

WPD confirmed that Smith has a history of similar offenses in Wade County and other locations.
