WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A Wilmington man will spend a minimum of six and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to the sale of drugs containing fentanyl, the Office of District Attorney Ben David announced.

Per the release, 45-year-old Kinwan Long plead guilty in New Hanover County Superior Court Monday, Aug. 12, to several drug charges and admitted to being a habitual felon. He will serve up to a maximum of nine years in prison.

“A confidential informant was utilized to purchase drugs from Long in June 2023 on two separate occasions,” the release states. “While Long was believed to have been selling heroin, the substances were later tested and found to contain fentanyl. Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department thereafter obtained a search warrant for Long’s residence on McClelland Drive. Inside, they found over 20 grams of cocaine, 68 dosage units of fentanyl, marijuana and other substances, along with drug paraphernalia and over $2500 in cash.”

He has been in custody since August 2023 and has an extensive criminal history, the release adds, including previous drug and violent crime convictions.
