WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Residents are being asked by Wilmington’s police and fire departments to consider donating blood on Thursday, Aug. 29, during the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the American Red Cross Donation Center at 1102 S 16th Street in Wilmington. Participating donors will tell staff which department they would like to represent, and the department who recruits the most donors will win the competition.

Donors can also make an appointment online, using sponsor code ILM BADGES.

“Alright, it’s that time of the year again!! We are facing off against the WFD and we hope to see you there on August 29th! Your donation to the American Red Cross helps save lives and is an important contribution to those who need it,” the Wilmington Police Department states in its announcement. “Please make sure to tell them that you want to support the WPD when you stop by!”

The Wilmington Fire Department took home the trophy in last year’s competition.

“Help up keep the trophy at home on Thursday, August 29 during the second annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive! You can make an appointment online and not only help us beat the Wilmington, NC Police Department, but help save lives during a national blood shortage,” the WFD says.
