Local law enforcement postpone National Night Out events

WHITEVILLE, N.C. (WECT) – Law enforcement departments across the country are set to host National Night Out events on August 6. Due to the anticipated weather impacts of Debby, local agencies have postponed their events.

Wilmington

The Wilmington Police Department has rescheduled its National Night Out at The Pointe 14 movie theater for Tuesday, Oct. 1.

“This year you’ll be able to meet some of the officers from The CW’s hit T.V. series Police 24/7, hang out with our horses and K-9′s, have a chance to take home FREE giveaways from companies like The Home Depot, PLUS listen to upbeat music from this year’s media partner, Cumulus Media (Coast 97.3 and 102-7 GNI),” a WPD announcement states.

There will also be patrol vehicles and specialized units at the event.

Whiteville

Whiteville Police Department’s National Night Out event has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The event will be held at City Hall.

Communities from all 50 states take part in National Night Out every year. The campaign promotes partnerships between police and the community.

Columbus County

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office has postponed its National Night Out event, with the new date to be announced at a later time, according to an Aug. 5 announcement.

“We look forward to celebrating with you soon! Stay safe and dry out there!” the CCSO states in the update.

“National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. This event enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. It provides a great opportunity to bring law enforcement and neighbors together under positive circumstances,” the initial announcement states.

Carolina Beach

The Carolina Beach Police Department has cancelled its National Night Out event that was originally slated for Aug. 6.
