‘We couldn’t even view our brother’s body’: Family of man killed in hit-and-run search for answers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department just released pictures of a car suspected in killing a man in a hit-and-run along North Tryon Street last month.

A black Dodge Challenger with heavy front end damage. Even though the images are blurry, it might be enough to find whoever is responsible. The victim’s family is hoping for justice as well.

“The impact was so bad we couldn’t even view our brother’s body,” Lisa Murray, the victim’s sister said.

A family reeling over a seemingly senseless accident that turned into a crime.

“What coward. That’s a coward. You hitting someone from the back? He didn’t see it coming at all,” Murray told us.

Police investigators tell us 62-year-old Curtis Bing was riding an electric bicycle around 10 p.m. last month coming home from work, when a car came up from behind him along North Tryon Street running him down, then taking off before emergency crews could arrive. Detectives Wednesday afternoon releasing these blurry images of the car that may have run from the scene.

“They should have at least stopped.” Burris pointed out.

Bing’s sister Sylvia Burris says he had just gotten his own apartment after living with family for the past several months. Burris says she’ll miss her brother’s love of cooking, but especially his compassion.

“If he could do anything to help you…he would,” Burris said.

But the help this family needs now is from the public. Anyone in the area that night who may have seen anything suspicious or knows who may have been behind the wheel of this car.

“Do the right thing to tell CMPD I saw this…call 911 to say I seen this,” Murray said.

Because what this family says it wants, what they so desperately need is justice in finding whoever is responsible. To turn restless nights…into resolution.

“Just come forward, because we need this closure.”

If you know whoever is responsible for what happened, the family asks you get in touch with police right away.
