WINNABOW, N.C. (WECT) – On Friday, August 23, Brunswick County Schools leaders celebrated a new addition to Town Creek Elementary School.
A ribbon cutting was held to debut eight new classrooms that have been added to the elementary school. The new wing connects Town Creek Elementary to Town Creek Middle School.
Superintendent of Brunswick County Schools Dale Cole says the new additions are just a testament of how fast Brunswick County is growing.
“It means that we are living and working in a county that is growing, and growing very very quickly. I think that’s due to the work that’s being done by our commissioners and our board of education and all of our partner agencies in Brunswick County to make it a great place to live and raise children,” said Cole.
The new wing adds over 13,000 square feet of space. Originally the addition was made for fifth-grade students. However, because of how quickly the school has grown the new classes will be for fourth graders.
“During the time that we were building this addition. Town Creek Elementary grew so quickly that now it’s going to become the new fourth grade and we’ve already started another eight classrooms on the other side of the hallway that will open next year and that will be where the fifth grade goes,” said Cole.
Neighbors say they are excited to start the new school year with a new place to learn for faculty and students.
“It’s not many times in your career as a teacher that you get a classroom with that new car smell. So just seeing their faces this morning and how excited they were about their new classrooms was amazing the students will be the same way when they come in next week,” said Cole.
