CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Multiple fights broke out between the Carolina Panthers and New York Jets during a joint practice on Thursday morning.

Video posted by the “For Panthers Fans Only” podcast showed at least two skirmishes break out, both times drawing crowds of players in.

The first fight reportedly happened following a Bryce Young to Terrace Marshall Jr. touchdown pass during 11-on-11 drills. After the catch, Marshall flipped the ball toward Jets cornerback D.J. Reed, sparking the scrum.

During that dust-up, the video caught Reed hurl the football into Marshall’s back as he was walking away. Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard retaliated with a shove, and the two teams descended on the involved players. About 15 seconds later, the crowd broke up and practice continued.

A second video showed another fight, again involving some of the Panthers’ offensive players. During that skirmish, a couple Panthers and Jets appeared to have gotten tied up with one another, leading to a couple shoves. Like the first, that scrum also quickly dissipated.

Following the second fight, another near-tussle broke out after Hubbard reportedly slipped and was tackled hard by Jets safety Chuck Clark. He appeared to have injured his knee on the play, but Panthers head coach Dave Canales later said initial testing on his leg was “very positive.”

Canales also commented on Marshall’s ball flip, calling it “dumb football.”

“We can’t have that,” the rookie coach said after practice. “We want to celebrate with each other, we want to make big plays and give the opponent nothing…he got excited, you know, and he made a great play on a really good player. [Just] leave it at that.”

Canales said he talked with Marshall after the play and is putting the situation behind them. It came after a big day for Marshall, where he caught two touchdowns and made several splash plays.

The Panthers and Jets will lock horns again on Saturday when they face off in what will be the second preseason game for both teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bank of America Stadium.
