Unlicensed massage therapist charged in New Hanover County

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man for running an unlicensed massage therapist practice and unlawfully recording clients without their knowledge.

Robert Charles Herring was arrested after several complaints were filed by victims who received massages from Herring.

According to the NHCSO, Herring was offering free massage services out of his home on Kipling Court in Wilmington.

Investigators say Herring claimed the services were done as part of his student curriculum in massage therapy and that he needed additional hours to complete his certification.

He was charged with 12 felony counts of secret peeping and is being held under a $125,000 secured bond.

The sheriff’s office is looking for additional information and encourages anyone who may have received massage services from Herring to come forward. Herring also had a previous criminal history, including several felony charges for breaking and entering and larceny in the 1990s and a misdemeanor assault on a female charge from 2016.
