UNCW men’s basketball team defeats Monmouth in CAA home opener

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Shykeim Phillips scored 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half Thursday to lead the UNCW men’s basketball team to a 69-56 win over Monmouth at Trask Coliseum.

With the victory, the Seahawks (10-5, 1-2 CAA) snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 4-0 at home.

Maleeck Harden-Hayes and Trazarien White added 14 points apiece for UNCW.

Monmouth’s Xander Rice led all scorers with 26 points.

Legendary basketball coach Roy Williams was on hand at Trask Coliseum to watch UNCW take on former Tar Heel player and current Monmouth coach King Rice.

The Seahawks host Delaware on Sunday at 4 p.m.
