UNCW men’s basketball coach Takayo Siddle’s contract extended with $1 million annual salary
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – UNCW has extended the contract of head men’s basketball coach Takayo Siddle through April 14, 2031, according to an employee agreement.
Siddle confirmed that he agreed to a new five-year contract with UNCW on March 8. His new contract shows he will earn $1 million per year, a $150,000 raise from his previous contract.
The addendum extends Siddle’s original term by one year. His contract originally ran from April 1, 2020, through March 31, 2030.
For contract years 7 through 11, Siddle’s base salary is set at $300,000 per year. The salary will be paid in 12 equal monthly installments with normal tax and benefit withholdings.
Siddle will receive $700,000 in supplemental compensation on top of his base salary for years 7 through 11, bringing his total annual compensation to $1 million.
According to the addendum, the supplemental compensation is contingent on Siddle’s continued service as head coach and there being no pending NCAA or CAA investigation involving the men’s basketball program.
The supplemental compensation will be paid in 12 equal monthly installments.
If Siddle is terminated without cause, the university must pay him the supplemental compensation that would otherwise be due through the termination date.
Supplemental compensation immediately stops if he is terminated for cause, is unable to perform essential functions, resigns or dies.
The addendum modifies earlier agreements and addenda from March 13, 2020, April 21, 2022, April 27, 2023, and March 26, 2025.
The extension is not effective until the university’s board of trustees approves it.
