SAN ANTONIO, Texas (WECT) – UNCW Executive Chef Ryan Andress placed first last week at the Aramark Collegiate Hospitality and Harvest Table Culinary Excellence Competition, or ACE, the university announced July 2.

Per UNCW, eight chefs traveled to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the competition. Andress qualified for the national competition after winning a regional ACE title.

Competitors in the national competition were tasked with creating four innovative menu items from a mystery basket.

“ACE is a culinary competition that utilizes American Culinary Federation (ACF) standards and guidelines. It is about cultivating and highlighting the culinary talent within our company and challenging chefs to think outside the box and expand their comfort zones to create new and exciting dishes for our guests,” UNCW adds.
