WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A former UNCW men’s basketball player has signed a contract with the Charlotte Hornets.

The team announced on April 3 that guard Jaylen Sims has been signed to a 10-day contract with them. He is the second player to earn a contract, following Marcus Garrett.

According to UNCW, Sims played for the Seahawks during the 2018-2022 seasons. During his time with the team, he was a named CAA Player of the Week in 2020 and an All-CAA First Teamer for the 2021-2022 season. He will be the fourth Seahawk to play in the NBA when he makes his debut with the Hornets.

The Hornets say Sims has spent the last three seasons with the Greensboro Swarm. He is the team’s all-time leading scorer and led them to their first-ever NBA G League playoff berth.
