NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – A traffic stop on Market Street led to the arrest of two men Wednesday, July 31, according to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
Per the NHCSO, a patrol deputy conducted a traffic stop on a slow-moving vehicle that was traveling left of center near the intersection of Market Street and Gordon Road.
“Due to the suspicious circumstances, a Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputy was called in and utilized her K-9 partner, Vera, to search the vehicles exterior. K-9 deputy Vera indicated the presence of drugs on the vehicle, deputies conducted a physical search of the vehicles interior and located over two pounds of illegal Fentanyl,” the release states.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 42-year-old Marvin Isaac Deleon, and his passenger, 33-year-old Alywi Lopez-Godinez, have each been charged with three counts of trafficking opium. They are both being held under $1 million secured bonds in the New Hanover County jail.
