WHITE LAKE, N.C. (WECT) – Two people were transported to the hospital Sunday morning, Aug. 4, after an 18-wheeler and car collided on U.S. 701 near the White Lake Marina.
Crews with the Elizabethtown Fire Department and Town of White Lake Fire Department responded to the scene shortly before 8 a.m. Authorities say it was a partial head-on collision between the two vehicles.
The car’s driver was found pinned inside the vehicle. Fire crews began the extrication process, hoping to airlift the patient to the hospital. Their request was denied by three separate air medical services because of inclement weather conditions.
After 20 minutes, crews were able to free the driver, who was then transported to a nearby trauma center.
One other person was assessed by EMS and sent to a hospital for further evaluation.
