Town of Kure Beach to unveil historical marker for German U-Boat attack

KURE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – The town of Kure Beach will be holding a dedication and unveiling ceremony for a new historical marker next week.

According to the town, the new marker notes the German U-Boat attack on the Ethyl-Dow plant in July 1943 during World War II (WWII).

The town said the marker placement is an America 250 World War II Wilmington activity of the WWII Wilmington Home Front Heritage Coalition, which recognizes and promotes Wilmington’s designation as America’s first WWII Heritage City.

The event is set to be held on Thursday, March 12, at 5 p.m. at the Kure Beach Ocean Front Park on Atlantic Avenue.
