HAMPSTEAD, N.C. (WECT) – Topsail High School is set to hold ceremonies to rename its media center and gymnasium in honor of people who helped the school.

The Jan Lewis Media Center will be dedicated at a ceremony at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, in honor of benefactor Jan Lewis.

“Mrs. Lewis has been instrumental in the success of Topsail High School, donating several million dollars over the years. Her contributions have funded upgrades to the school’s stadium and track, band uniforms, computers, and various other programs. Additionally, her donations supported six teacher salaries during a period of financial difficulty for the district,” a Pender County Schools announcement states.

The gym will be named the Coach Jamie Rochelle Gymnasium at a ceremony on Monday, July 8, at 5 p.m. The gym will remember late teacher and coach James “Jamie” Rochelle, who died last year.

“After graduating from Topsail High, Rochelle returned to his alma mater and served as a Physical Education Teacher for 15 years. At the time of his passing, he was the Head Men’s Golf Coach. Throughout his career at THS, he also coached football and basketball, taught driver’s education, and participated in numerous extracurricular activities,” the announcement continues.
