TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – Topsail High School has selected its ninth Head Football Coach in school history.

Chris Schmidt served as the interim coach after the departure of Coach Jack Teachey who left the role to become a senior defensive analyst at Texas Tech University.

Schmidt previously served as Associate Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator for the Pirates Football Program.

“I’m humbled and excited to be named the permanent Head Coach for Topsail Football,” Schmidt said. “This program will continue to be built on the ideals of servant leadership and competitive excellence, and we will represent this community with respect and pride.”

Schmidt spent three years coaching at Cleveland High School in Clayton, NC before he arrived at Topsail High. He was the head JV coach and a linebacker coach for the football program, and the team went 26-1 and won three straight conference titles with Schmidt at the helm.
