COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office has arrested three people in connection to reports of various thefts.
Per the CCSO, Chadbourn police told the CSO about a stolen truck that was spotted by a license plate camera and found behind Pawn South in Chadbourn on July 16 at around noon. Officers detained the two people in the car and discovered multiple guns, $6,200 in cash and realized they were attempting to pawn a gold bracelet, according to the sheriff’s office.
The CCSO also says that investigations lead to the discovery of cocaine in the truck, and that the two suspects gave conflicting statements about their involvement and ownership of the drugs and stolen items.
The two people found in the truck were James Andrew Delaney and Crystal Gayle Long, the former of which allegedly gave a fake name to law enforcement.
“Additional investigations uncovered that Ms. Long and Mr. Delaney were involved in other criminal activities, including theft of financial transaction cards, firearms, and a zero-turn lawnmower with a Ms. Summer Reagan Malpass. Warrants were issued for their arrests, and all individuals faced multiple felony charges,” a CCSO announcement states.
The three were taken into custody on Aug. 1:
- Long was charged with 10 felony counts financial card theft, one felony count exploitation of disabled/elder capacity, four felony counts possession of stolen property, three felony counts larceny of a firearm and one felony count felony larceny. She was given a $60,000 secured bond.
- Delaney was charged with 10 felony counts financial card theft, three felony counts larceny of a firearm, three felony counts possession of stolen property and two felony counts felony conspiracy. He was given a $60,000 secured bond.
- Malpass was charged with one count felony larceny, one felony count possession of stolen property and one felony count conspiracy to commit felony larceny. She is also facing charges for a driving while impaired and speeding warrant from Highway Patrol back on Sept. 5, 2022. Her bond was set at $12,000 secured.
