WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – On June 22, the Good Shepherd Center and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard joined together to raise money for the fight against food insecurity.

The Good Shepherd Center and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard are two organizations aimed at helping provide food to people in need.

On Saturday the organizations held a mini bowls event at the Alcove Beer Garden in Wilmington. Mini bowls were sold for $20 each, all proceeds go to the Good Shepherd Center and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard.

“Events like mini bowls, that’s what keeps us going and that’s what prepares to continue to be open every day responding to our neighbors in need,” said Katrina Knight, executive director of the Good Shepherd Center.

Organizers say buying the bowls can be a good reminder the fight towards ending food insecurity is not over yet.

The bowls are leftovers from an Empty Bowls event that was held in March. All of the bowls are made and donated by local artists.

“These events are so gratifying. It’s wonderful to have two hunger-oriented organizations come together to educate the community on the need but also raise vital funds for our services,” said Knight.
