Katharine McPhee is throwing it back to her days on “American Idol” while in quarantine.

The 36-year-old songstress took to Instagram on Monday to share a photo of herself donning a dress that she wore on stage while competing on “Idol.”

The yellow dress featured a low V-cut, a high thigh-slit and was buttoned down the front.

The post contained two photos, one of McPhee wearing the dress in present day, and a second of McPhee wearing the dress 14 years ago, during the fifth season of the popular singing competition show.

Not much seems to have changed for McPhee in all those years, save for her hair, which was long and curled in the throwback pic, and simply hung behind her back in the modern photo.

“It’s day 26 of quarantine and we’re breaking out dresses from 14 years ago,” the singer wrote in the caption. “Might have to resurrect this moment, on a red carpet, once we are out of this.”

McPhee also referenced her time on “Idol” with an Instagram post on Saturday.

The post contained a video of McPhee comically recreating her audition for the competition show, spliced with footage of the judges from her original audition.

The video kicks off with the iconic “American Idol” logo and theme music before audio of Simon Cowell kicks in: “Hi sweetheart, what’s your name?”

The signer-actress carries out a conversation with the judges in the footage as if they were present in the room.

The post was made to promote an upcoming Instagram Live concert which was “American Idol” themed.

But her first big break came after she auditioned for “American Idol” in 2006. Her strong vocal ability and stage presence made her a favorite to win the singing competition series. Unfortunately, she came in second to Taylor Hicks.

But that didn’t stop the now-36-year-old entertainer. McPhee went on to star as one of the leads in the musical drama TV series “Smash” and land the lead in the Broadway show “Waitress.”

Katy Perry cries after ‘American Idol’ contestant suffers a seizure

What began as an “American Idol” contestant’s medical emergency turned into an emotional performance that brought judge Katy Perry to tears.

During Monday’s episode of the reality singing competition, 17-year-old contestant Makayla Brownlee took the stage to sing a cover of Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow” when it quickly became apparent that something was wrong. The Wellington, Kansas, woman’s speech seemed to be labored while she was introducing the song. When it came time for her to sing, she abruptly turned and struggled to walk off the stage.

The contestant collapsed just offstage, where crew members and EMTs quickly tended to her. Perry urged her fellow judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, to give Brownlee some space, but the duo couldn’t resist checking up on the youngster. As it turns out, Brownlee was having a seizure, but it was nothing she hadn’t experienced before.

“In seventh grade, I was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope,” Brownlee explained after the incident. “It’s a heart condition that causes me to react to stress differently than other people, and it could cause a seizure.”

“She can’t control it. She’s embarrassed, but physically, she’s 100 percent all right,” the singer’s father told the cameras. “This opportunity is so important for her. I’d hate to see it inhibited in any way because she’s such a good singer. She works so hard at it.”

Clearly moved by the incident, Perry took to Twitter during the broadcast to share some words of encouragement with Brownlee.

“Nothing to be embarrassed about, #MakaylaBrownlee. We all handle stress differently❣️ #AmericanIdol,” the “Firework” singer wrote.

Hours after collapsing, Brownlee returned to the stage for another try, delivering a performance that brought Perry to tears and earned her a spot in the competition’s Top 40.

“The stress this week has definitely been a lot harder on me than anything I’ve ever gone through,” Brownlee explained after her successful performance. “There’s nothing I can do to prevent a seizure. When I’m stressed out, my body just reacts differently.”

Perry took to Twitter once again to share her appreciation for Brownlee, writing: “That was the sweetest performance of ‘Rainbow’ #MakalylaBrownlee. So thrilled you were able to come back and sing for us and give us that perspective we need to be reminded of sometimes ♥️ #AmericanIdol @KaceyMusgraves.”

This has been a particularly stressful week for “American Idol” all around as Fox News learned that production on the current season is “currently suspended” amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Fans first met the “Cry Pretty” star when Season 4 of “American Idol”  debuted in 2005. She ultimately won that season of the singing competition series and has gone on to become a country music superstar with six studio records to her name.

In honor of the singer-songwriter’s 37th birthday on Tuesday, we’re taking a look back at her journey to stardom. Here are some of Underwood’s best moments:

“American Idol”

At 21 years old, Underwood auditioned for “American Idol” in 2004. The Oklahoma native — rocking a pink shirt and jeans — sang Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” for then-judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.

That same year, she also won Grammy Awards for best new artist and best female vocal country performance for “Jesus, Take The Wheel.” Then in 2007, she won best female country vocal performance for “Before He Cheats.” Today, Underwood has a total of seven Grammys and 14 nominations.

Outside of music, Underwood has created a fitness lifestyle brand, CALIA by Carrie Underwood. She also recently wrote a book titled, “Find Your Path,” which she also launched with the fit52 app.

Marriage 

After nearly two years of dating, Underwood wed professional hockey player Mike Fisher in July 2010 at the Ritz-Carlton resort on Lake Oconee, Ga., according to People magazine.

In June 2019, Underwood opened up to the outlet about how she knew Fisher, 39, was “The One.”

Baby joy

Underwood and Fisher are parents to two sons: 5-year-old Isaiah and 1-year-old Jacob.

However, just before she gave birth to baby Jacob, Underwood revealed in September 2018 that she had suffered three miscarriages throughout 2017 and early 2018 while trying for a second child.

Last June, Underwood said that the miscarriages forced her to question her relationship with God and beg for a straight answer as to whether she could have another child after her son Isaiah. “But the miscarriages made me get real with God and say, ‘Okay, I’m kind of giving up a little bit. If this isn’t meant to happen, then I need to accept that and know that someday I’ll understand why,'” she told People magazine.

But after coming through the ordeal with a new bundle of joy — and a renewed confidence in herself — the star shared that she believes that she’s now ready for any new challenges life may throw her way.

The award-winning singer broke down in tears in front of her peers and family, including husband Fisher and their son Isaiah — she was pregnant with Jacob at the time — as she accepted the accolade.

Following “Some Hearts,” Underwood released the 2007 album “Carnival Ride,” the 2009 record “Play On,” 2012’s “Blown Away,” “Storyteller” in 2015 and 2018’s “Cry Pretty.”

Outside of music, Underwood has created a fitness lifestyle brand, CALIA by Carrie Underwood. She also recently wrote a book titled, “Find Your Path,” which she also launched with the fit52 app.

Marriage 

After nearly two years of dating, Underwood wed professional hockey player Mike Fisher in July 2010 at the Ritz-Carlton resort on Lake Oconee, Ga., according to People magazine.

In June 2019, Underwood opened up to the outlet about how she knew Fisher, 39, was “The One.”

“I feel like he is the person I was meant to be with,” she told the magazine. “I had dated guys and kind of knew, like, ‘No.’ Nothing was ever really wrong, but nothing was really right either. With him, it was like a good partnership. It was an easy relationship to be in.”

Underwood and Fisher are parents to two sons: 5-year-old Isaiah and 1-year-old Jacob.

However, just before she gave birth to baby Jacob, Underwood revealed in September 2018 that she had suffered three miscarriages throughout 2017 and early 2018 while trying for a second child.

Last June, Underwood said that the miscarriages forced her to question her relationship with God and beg for a straight answer as to whether she could have another child after her son Isaiah. “But the miscarriages made me get real with God and say, ‘Okay, I’m kind of giving up a little bit. If this isn’t meant to happen, then I need to accept that and know that someday I’ll understand why,'” she told People magazine.

But after coming through the ordeal with a new bundle of joy — and a renewed confidence in herself — the star shared that she believes that she’s now ready for any new challenges life may throw her way.

“There is a thing about motherhood that makes you feel like, ‘Okay, if I can do that, I can do anything,’” she explained at the time. “And I feel like I’m a little older, a little wiser. This isn’t my first rodeo.”

In September 2018, Underwood received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The award-winning singer broke down in tears in front of her peers and family, including husband Fisher and their son Isaiah — she was pregnant with Jacob at the time — as she accepted the accolade.

“How is this my life?” Underwood said. “How does a girl from Muskogee, Oklahoma, end up with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? I’ll tell you how — belief. I’ve been so blessed in my life to have … so many people who believed in me.”

Katy Perry and Ryan Seacrest brought to tears over ‘American Idol’ audition story

There was another first on Sunday night’s episode of “American Idol.”

Ryan Seacrest ran into aspiring singer Courtney Timmons outside the set’s building, where she had been waiting all day in line. He brought her up to judge’s himself – bypassing all the producers – and her incredible voice brought tears to Seacrest’s and Katy Perry‘s eyes.

“No one has heard of her. We don’t have any idea what she sounds like,” Seacrest said about the 22-year-old security guard from Georgia.

Timmons then stunned everyone with a moving rendition of Andra Day’s “Rise Up.”

“You can sing!” Perry commented.

“No, you can sang!” fellow judge Lionel Richie added. “You are a bird, girl.”

“You’re one of the best singers we’ve seen today!” Perry told Timmons. “You’re probably the best singer we’ve seen today. Courtney Timmons, this is really magical. This is a magical moment. We’re going to send you to Hollywood.”

Seacrest wiped away tears as they handed Timmons a golden ticket.

“Us two — we probably don’t have any emotion, but when you get us, you really get us,” Perry said about her and Seacrest’s emotions. “Courtney, you are what ‘American Idol’ is. You’re the new definition.”
