SUNSET BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – The Sunset Beach Police Department is warning of a recent scam reported by a local business.

“Today, a local business reported receiving a call from a person posing as a Sunset Beach Police Department Lieutenant. The caller was asking questions regarding the daily operations of this establishment. It is not a practice for Sunset Beach Police Officers to telephone with questions related to the security of a business. Anytime you receive a call, and you question the authenticity of that call, we urge you to hang up and call the entity back to confirm its legitimacy,” an SBPD announcement states.
