Week 5 Thursday Injury Report: Christian McCaffrey limited again

October 7, 2021 By Darin Gantt

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers saw another day of limited work from Christian McCaffrey Thursday, but now have another question on the offensive line.

McCaffrey looked like himself during the portion of practice open to the media, running well with no apparent issues.

Center Matt Paradis did not participate in Thursday’s practice with an illness. No other update was provided and head coach Matt Rhule doesn’t meet with reporters on Thursday.

Sam Tecklenburg is the only other center on the roster, with Pat Elflein on injured reserve.

Left tackle Cameron Erving (neck) was also out again Thursday, leaving them with a potentially shuffled deck up front.

Rhule said Wednesday that if Erving didn’t play, either Trent Scott or Brady Christensen would likely move into the starting lineup, though he didn’t specify which position. In training camp, Rhule said right tackle Taylor Moton was likely his backup left tackle, though he’s much more comfortably on the right. Either way, nothing is settled up front.

Linebacker Shaq Thompson (foot) also did not practice, and he’s expected to miss at least this week’s and maybe next week’s game as well.

Otherwise, defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos (ankle), right guard John Miller (shoulder), and outside linebacker Haason Reddick (neck) were full participants.
