SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) – The City of Southport is seeking public feedback to improve its parking and guide updates to its Comprehensive Plan.
According to the announcement, the survey is open to current, past and future residents, as well as those who work or own property or a business in Southport and its extraterritorial jurisdiction.
Questions include where you’d like to see new sidewalks, how easy it is for you to find parking and the the types of developments you’d like to see in the city.
“The Comprehensive Plan will outline the vision for the future of Southport and lists policies and recommendations for achieving this vision,” the city states. “It will guide land use policy, funding, resource distribution, and infrastructure investment decisions for the City of Southport, its staff, and its governing bodies.
“Comprehensive plans are created through an extensive planning process that includes intentional public engagement to determine the shared vision for Southport. Stewart’s planning consultant team will take information gathered from this survey and public meetings to update the community’s vision and goals for the future and make recommendations towards achieving these goals.”
Feedback on parking will be used “for the improvement of parking systems and methods necessary to foster a vibrant quality of place and sustain future economic development in the downtown area.”
“The planned study area is roughly bordered by Taylor Field Park (Rhett Street/North Atlantic Avenue) on the east, Yacht Basin Drive/North Caswell Avenue on the west, the Cape Fear River on the south and 12th Street on the north,” Southport states. “Walker Consultants will assess existing public and private parking, both on- and off-street within the study area and will document how parking is used throughout various seasons, times of the week, and times of day.
“The parking study will include traffic and engineering data, field observation, property owner and stakeholder input, as well as feedback from the following public survey. Input provided in this survey will be used to inform recommendations for future parking improvements, downtown planning and development strategies and other innovative parking solutions to help manage growth and development in downtown Southport.”
