WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Skywatch Bird Rescue is asking for sponsors and donations after receiving a rare intake of baby barn owls on Halloween.
According to the rescue, four baby barn owls were found in a nest in a deer stand by a hunter. They are currently working with the hunter to set up replacement nest boxes for next season.
The organization says that raptors are the rescue’s most costly birds, with each owl costing up to $1,900 to care for.
To help cover costs, the rescue is seeking businesses to sponsor each owl. Sponsors will be able to name the owl and have special sponsor involvement.
The rescue is also asking for donations of game meat to help cover increased raptor intakes during the winter.
“Any support to help us raise these babies wild and strong, to prepare them for eventual release, is greatly appreciated,” said Skywatch in a social media post.
Anyone interested in sponsoring or donating can contact Skywatch at 855-407-3728, info@skywatchbirdrescue.org, or message them on Facebook.
