COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that damaged a home in the Whiteville area early Saturday morning, Oct. 19.

According to the sheriff’s office report, authorities responded to a property damage call at the 100 block of Church Lane just after 1 a.m.

“[The homeowner] reported that during the night, [they] heard a single popping sound but dismissed it and went to bed. The following morning, [they] discovered a bullet hole in the hallway of [their] residence. The bullet had traveled through a secondary wall and into a bedroom,” the report states.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate this incident.
