SHALLOTTE, N.C. (WECT) – The Shallotte Police Department began investing an alleged stabbing Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Per the SPD, a man was allegedly stabbed with a “sharp object” at around 9:30 p.m. near 4400 Main Street while being approached by two unknown men wearing masks. The victim had life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the hospital, but was in stable condition as of Aug. 23.

However, the SPD says that the Investigations Unit determined that this did not occur as reported above, and 19-year-old Julio Francisco Santos Gomez has been charged with filing a false police report.

“We want to reassure the community that there is no ongoing threat. The safety of our town remains our top priority, and we appreciate your continued support,” a SPD announcement states.
