CORNELIUS, N.C. (WBTV) – Crews are still searching for a swimmer who went missing on Lake Norman Thursday afternoon, according to officials.
The water rescue was first reported around 5 p.m. on the lake “near the sandbar.”
Around 6 p.m., officials asked all civilian boats to leave the area to allow the search to progress.
By Friday morning, Cornelius Police asked all boaters to avoid the area of the sandbar near marker D4 to keep the water calm. According to police, calm water will help with using SONAR equipment.
“Please stay clear and allow our teams to work efficiently,” the department wrote in a social media post.
First responder groups with Mecklenburg, Lincoln, and Iredell counties were on the scene to assist Cornelius Fire.
No further information was released.
