WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The International School at Gregory participated in the Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day.
Students, teachers, family members, and community members wore purple as they walked to the steps at the entrance of the International School at Gregory.
According to the school, in the 1998 Disney film ‘Ruby Bridges’ outside scenes of the white school where a mob protested Bridges’ attendance were filmed at the main entrance of the International School at Gregory.
On its website, the Ruby Bridges Foundation explains the walk is to encourage students to hold conversations and take part in their own forms of activism to bring an end to racism and all forms of bullying.
