WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – As Debby continues to march into the Carolinas, residents in southeastern N.C. can receive local emergency notifications from their county.

  • Columbus County
    • Columbus County residents are asked to sign up for Hyper-Reach alerts.
    • Columbus County will open an Emergency Shelter at West Columbus High School on Aug. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in anticipation of rivers, creeks, and swamps continuing to rise.
    • The City of Whiteville is providing sandbags to local business owners and residents. It is self-serve and available on a first-come, first-served basis at Lewis-Smith while supplies last.
    • The Town of Lake Waccamaw is providing sandbags on a first-come, first-served basis at Lake Waccamaw Fire Station 9, 203 Flemington Drive. You are asked to bring a shovel.
  • Brunswick County
    • ReadyBrunswick is Brunswick County’s emergency alert system for residents. The service is provided through the Everbridge app.
    • Brunswick County closed shelter operations at Town Creek Middle School at 3 p.m.
    • The Town of Leland is offering updates on its website.
  • Bladen County
    • Bladen County residents can sign up for Code Red to receive alerts. The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office app is also used to relay weather information.
    • The Centerville Baptist Church will be the only shelter that remains open as of 5 p.m. on Thursday with limited staff. The shelter is not pet friendly.
  • New Hanover County
  • Pender County
    • Pender County residents can download the Pender County EM app to receive alerts. The app is available on Google Play and the App Store.
    • Two emergency shelters opened on Wednesday and closed at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
