WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – In a turning point in the trial of former oral surgeon Michael Hasson, the state rested its case Tuesday, meaning the prosecution has finished presenting its evidence.
Now, the defense will present its case.
This comes weeks after former patients testified Hasson sexually assaulted them.
On Tuesday, Hasson’s defense attorney conceded all the alleged victims were his former patients.
However, Hasson’s defense attorney Tripp Watson asked the jury to look at the case with a “different perspective.”
The defense brought in a Wilmington Police Department detective to testify who initially investigated the allegations against Hasson after two women came forward over five years ago.
He answered the defense’s questions about the facts of his WPD investigation and was then cross-examined by the prosecution.
Most importantly, Hasson’s defense attorneys specified that Hasson would take the stand in his own defense, however, it is unknown at this time when that would happen.
Hasson has been out of jail since he posted bond back in 2019.
