SURF CITY, N.C. (WECT) – Two people are injured after an early morning Sunday, June 23, shooting in Surf City.
The Surf City Police Department identified 21-year-old Devon Nikoli Veronesi, of Holly Ridge, as the suspect who allegedly shot two people near the intersection of Pender Avenue and North Topsail Drive.
Police are working with surrounding law enforcement agencies to arrest Veronesi.
A spokesperson with SCPD said the suspect’s location is known to police.
Veronesi has active warrants for possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm into occupied dwelling.
Police responded to a “shots fired” call at 12:05 a.m. Sunday.
According to police, the incident occurred following an altercation between multiple people present at the home.
Veronesi then fired his gun back into the home, striking one woman in the leg and one man in the hand. Both victims were taken to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Media Center by EMS.
A spokesperson with the police department said this was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public. The investigation is still ongoing.
