COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – A police chase beginning in Horry County, South Carolina, ended with a crash in Fair Bluff Monday, Oct. 21.
According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the Horry County Police Department (HCPD) was in pursuit of 27-year-old Kendan Quashan Crawford on Swamp Fox Highway E when the chase approached Tabor City. As the chase entered North Carolina, a corporal with the CCSO joined.
Crawford was wanted by the HCPD for a felony probation violation.
During the pursuit, Crawford is accused of traveling in excess of 110 mph, weaving into oncoming traffic and passing multiple vehicles while in no-passing zones.
The chase reached Fair Bluff, where Stop Sticks deployed by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol successfully damaged one of the tires on the Honda that Crawford was driving.
The chase continued for a brief time, until Crawford allegedly lost control at the intersection of Main Street and Conway Road, crashing into a tree.
He was taken into custody without further incident and is being held under no bond at the Columbus County Detention Center.
