PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Pender County Schools announced one of their teachers was selected as a finalist for the 2024 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year Award.
Miranda Wells of Topsail High School, who worked as a nurse for 12 years before going into teaching, was nominated by the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.
She currently teaches health science courses at Topsail High School and also serves as the CTE department chair, HOSA advisor, and mentor to CTE teachers across the county.
“As a finalist, Wells will be honored at the NC Association for Career and Technical Education (NCACTE) Summer Conference Keynote and Awards Gala on July 16 in Winston-Salem. Additionally, she has been invited to attend NCCAT’s Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year Program from September 30 to October 4 in Cullowhee, NC, where she will participate in leadership sessions, share best practices, and undergo interviews,” PCS wrote in a press release.
The celebration event will take place on October 3 at Western Carolina University’s campus.
