SHALLOTTE, N.C. (WECT) – A pedestrian was killed Tuesday morning, Aug. 6, in a hit and run on Main Street in Shallotte, according to an announcement from police.

Per the Shallotte Police Department, officers responded to the 4700 block of Main Street just before 5 a.m., where a man was found unresponsive in the roadway.

“Our officers provided medical attention until the Town of Shallotte Fire/Rescue Department and Brunswick County EMS arrived on scene and assumed patient care, however the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries,” the release states.

The suspect vehicle had left the scene, but the driver, identified as Blanca Mayel Montiel-Perez, later turned themselves in. She has been charged with felony hit and run resulting in death and misdemeanor fail to give aid at an accident.

Montiel-Perez is being held under a $25,000 bond at the Brunswick County Jail.
