WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Coastal Horizons Reentry Services held its program graduation at the First Baptist Activity Center in Wilmington on Friday, Aug. 23.

Three women graduated from the program, which is aimed at helping people battling substance abuse or addiction after their release from jail.

Coastal Horizons staff say that the graduation is proof that if you support people to turn their lives around, it pays off.

“For a lot of folks this shows where the programming and the funding, this is the outcome. A lot of folks, we hear and see the negative outcomes. This is positive. This is why we do what we do,” said Billy McGowan with Coastal Horizons.

Those in the program go through six to nine months of outpatient service, and Coastal Horizons helps link people to further recovery programs or a halfway house to help them get back on their feet.
