CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – When it comes to kicking field goals, nobody in NFL history has been more accurate than the Carolina Panthers’ Eddy Pineiro.

The 29-year-old took over the top spot Sunday – despite Carolina having a bye – after Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker missed two field goals.

Over his five NFL seasons, Pineiro has made 101 of 113 field goal tries, which equates to 89.38%. Tucker has made 411 of his 460, good enough for 89.35%. The Chiefs’ Harrison Butker is right on their heels at 89.21%. For reference, the minimum threshold to qualify for the record is 100 attempts.

Pineiro’s best season came in 2022, when he made 33 of 35 field goal attempts. This year, he has missed just one of his 13 attempts. He is not known for having the biggest leg, but has made field goals of 50+ yards every year of his career, including a 53-yarder earlier this season. He hit a career-long 56-yard field goal in 2023.

Carolina first signed Pineiro in 2022, just days before the season started after then-Panthers kicker Zane Gonzalez injured himself during a preseason game. Pineiro has held the job since, fending off rookie Harrison Mevis in training camp this year.

Four times Pineiro has hit a game-winning field goal for Carolina, including in their overtime win against the Giants in Germany.

Things have appeared to be on the upswing for the Panthers over the past two weeks, hopefully a sign that rookie head coach Dave Canales has the team heading in the right direction.

Coming off a bye and two-straight wins, the Panthers will have a tough test this Sunday when they host Kansas City, who is fresh off its first loss since Christmas Day in 2023.

As of Monday morning, Carolina is a 10.5-point underdog to Kansas City. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on WBTV/CBS.
