CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WRAL) – The University of North Carolina’s Board of Trustees is expected to hold an emergency meeting Wednesday, where the board is expected to discuss a contract for a new football coach, according to sources familiar with the process.

The school has offered legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick the job. Belichick, 72. won six Super Bowls as coach of the New England Patriots, but has no college coaching experience.

Board approval of a contract is a necessary step in the school’s process of hiring a new football coach.

The Tar Heels fired 73-year-old Mack Brown on November 25, days before the regular-season finale against NC State. Brown coached UNC in that game, which NC State won.
