One dead after fatal traffic collision in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – According to Wilmington Police Sean Mercer died from a car crash that happened on Feb. 2 a few minutes after 1:30 p.m.

The Wilmington Police Department responded to a two-car crash in the westbound lanes of Market Street near the intersection of Old Eastwood Rd.

According to police when they arrived they located one of the vehicles, a Toyota Camry that had overturned. The driver of that vehicle, 30-year-old Sean Mercer of Wilmington was extricated from the vehicle by the Wilmington Fire Department and transported by EMS to Novant Medical Center with serious injuries.

Wilmington police say Mercer ultimately succumbed to his injuries from the collision.

This incident is being investigated by the Wilmington Police Department traffic enforcement unit. The cause of the collision and the circumstances around it are under investigation.
