SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) – Brunswick County and the City of Southport issued a joint press release on June 28 to address questions surrounding the passage of NC HB 911, which will remove the Southport Extraterritorial Planning Jurisdiction.

All properties in the area will fall under county jurisdiction and the county planning board effective July 1, but unless otherwise directed, all approved projects or projects in the application phase in the Southport ETJ should keep contacting the city regarding planning or permitting needs.

“Brunswick County and the City of Southport are coordinating to identify impacted projects and plan steps to transfer these projects to the County’s jurisdiction as seamlessly as possible. Both the County and the City will provide more direction to residents and the development community on when to begin coordinating with Brunswick County for project applications and permitting as soon as these details are finalized,” the announcement states.
