OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – The Ocean Isle Beach Board of Commissioners on July 16 looked at a draft ordinance for a proposal to start enforcing paid parking on some rights of ways.
The town’s goal is to prohibit or further limit parking in the right of way except in certain designated areas and eventually implement a paid parking program starting April 1, 2025.
An initial draft would have the parking rules enforced between April 1 through Oct. 31 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. every day. The proposal also would prohibit parking from midnight to 6 a.m. on several streets. However, these details are still subject to change, and the board plans to make revisions.
For now, the town needs to search for a parking management company. After that, it will need to choose a company, work with the company to make any additional changes, conduct a public hearing, adopt the ordinance, and finally implement paid parking.
