OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – The Town of Oak Island announced Thursday that the beach is under a double red flag warning, meaning that all swimming and in-ocean activity is restricted until further notice.

Throughout southeastern NC, rip current risks are still high, per the National Weather Service.

“In addition to strong rip current risks from the storm, heavy rains have negatively impacted coastal waters. Stormwater runoff can contain elevated levels of harmful bacteria that drain into coastal water bodies,” an Oak Island announcement states.
