OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – The Oak Island Police Department on Aug. 26 launched its “SLOW RIDE: Take It Safely” campaign aimed at educating people about low speed vehicle (LSV) rules.

The town has increased LSV enforcement and will be passing out information cards that are also available online. They include a map that gives LSV drivers alternate routes to use to enjoy the ride without impacting heavier traffic.

“Remember, LSVs are treated just like any other vehicle on the road. We respect their right to enjoy our streets as much as any other vehicle, and apply the law equally. By providing these safety reminders and helpful route suggestions, we can work together to let everyone enjoy the Island 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒆! So download your card today and help us share this message, as we all 𝑺𝑳𝑶𝑾 𝑹𝑰𝑫𝑬: 𝑻𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝑰𝒕 𝑺𝒂𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒚!” a town announcement states.
