OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – A purple flag has been issued for Saturday, Aug. 31 in the town of Oak Island.
This comes after town officials say they received reports of six stings on the beach Saturday. All people who were stung were treated on site by ocean rescue, with no major injuries being reported.
Officials say the stings were consistent with jellyfish stings, though a specific species has not been identified. They do not believe the stings are from Man O’ War.
The purple flag notice is set to expire at the end of the day. Surf conditions remain at a green flag.
