WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Two Wilmington-based surgeons with Novant Health have made Newsweek’s list of America’s Leading Doctors 2025.
According to Novant, heart surgeons Dr. Peter Kane and Dr. Hank Marks with the Novant Health Heart & Vascular Institute in Wilmington were named on the list in the cardiothoracic surgery category.
Newsweek and Statista Inc. compiled the list based on the following data sources:
- Physician performance data
- Recommendations from peers
- Quality score
- Certifications
Dr. Kane and Dr. Marks are among nine physicians in the state to be named on the list, Novant said in a press release. Both doctors were recognized for high-performance treatment for coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
“The nation has more than 5,000 heart surgeons, so having not one but two of our esteemed local heart surgeons named to this elite list is a real honor,” Laurie Whalin, president of Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center and acute care operations for the Novant Health Coastal Region, said.
