NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – New Hanover County Schools Chief Communications Officer Salvatore Cardella is no longer working with the district as of Wednesday, July 3, per a NHCS announcement.
Just one day earlier, the school board voted to terminate now-former Superintendent Dr. Charles Foust and pay the $225,000+ required by his contract upon termination.
Cardella told WECT that he found out on June 23 that his position would be dissolved because it was not funded on the new budget effective July 1. He was under a one-year contract, and he says he could not answer if he would have renewed if Foust had stayed.
Cardella joined the district less than a year ago on August 2, 2023.
